First graders in Mrs. Atwood’s, Mrs. Fritch’s, Mrs. Hutchison’s, and Mrs. Wimer’s classes recently had some very special visitors from Dr. McCaskey’s office! Three wonderful ortho assistants came to teach first grade students all about keeping their smiles healthy and bright. 

We recently discovered an error in the printed district calendar that was mailed to residents this summer.

The correct date for the March Board Meeting is March 9, not March 16.

After spending the last two weeks learning all about the Winter Olympics, Mrs. Fritch’s first grade class turned curiosity into creativity with their very own Olympic Games— inspired by their chapter book Ready Freddy: Ready, Set, Snow!

Over the past two weeks, Ms. Hammonds' classroom transformed into an Olympic arena as students took part in a Winter Olympics–themed learning experience inspired by the Games in Italy.

For the past two weeks, Mrs. Twentier and Mrs. Seidler’s fifth grade students, with the help of paraprofessional, Mrs. Kuchta, explored winter Olympic events during social studies, writing, and Positive Action lessons. 

Third grade students recently welcomed Brandi, Casey, and Josh from the Jennings Environmental Education Center for a hands-on lesson about maple sugaring and the importance of trees.

Sixth grade students had a heartwarming time celebrating Valentine’s Day by creating festive Valentine boxes with their buddies from Mrs. Sadowski and Ms. Kelly’s classrooms. The collaborative activity brought students together for a fun afternoon of creativity, friendship, and teamwork.

Fifth grade students at KCAES showed their skills and school spirit by participating in Super Bowl–themed challenges that blended learning with friendly competition.

Mrs. Twentier and Mrs. Seidler recognized students who were Remote Learning Rock Stars last week.

The students showed responsibility by being prepared, working hard and consistently participating in the google meets. We're proud of their effort and commitment!

Kindergarten registration for the 2026-2027 school year is now open! If your child will be five years old by September 1, 2026, it's time to register for kindergarten! 

Mrs. Rice and Mrs. Wilson’s third grade classes teamed up with Mrs. Twentier and Mrs. Seidler’s fifth grade classes for a collaborative STEM-inspired art activity, creating intricate 3D paper snowflakes.

Center for Community Resources is offering volunteer income tax assistance.

Karns City was proudly represented on stage as students, faculty, parents, and community members came together to perform with the Kittanning Community Band in a recent concert.

The holiday spirit was alive and well thanks to our outstanding music department!

Inclusion is a core value at Karns City Area Elementary School, and it continues to open meaningful opportunities for students.

December 22 will be an Act 80 Professional Development Day for staff members instead of a snow make up day where students attend school.  Since December 22 will be an Act 80 Day, students will not make up the day missed on December 2.

Fifth graders at Karns City Area Elementary School completed the DARE program with hands-on learning from local deputies and K9 Officer Justice, concluding with an essay contest recognizing top student writers.

Students in Mrs. Sadowski, Ms. Kelly and Mrs. Serafine’s rooms are back in business!

With their grand opening on October 30th, the Sunshine Station made and delivered nearly 70 orders with the help of 13 students! This round was funded by the faculty of KCAES and was enjoyed by all. 

Karns City Area Elementary School students and staff proudly honored local veterans with a heartfelt Veterans Day assembly.

Butler County Symphony Orchestra recently brought their "What Makes Music American?" tour to Karns City Area Elementary School.

Fifth grade students from Karns City Area Elementary School spent the day exploring the Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Pittsburgh. During their visit, students participated in a guided tour focused on Pennsylvania Natural History, where museum interpreters brought science to life through engaging exhibits.

Karns City Area Elementary School recently participated in Rock Your School Day, a nationwide initiative started by Get Your Teach On. Rock Your School Day was started to encourage teachers and schools to create an educational experience by doing something different for their students, and is about teachers, their students, and a community of educators celebrating the little things!

Jon Pritikin is a world-record-holding strongman, author, and motivational speaker whose message of hope, resilience, and kindness has inspired millions of people around the globe. Through his program Feel the Power, Jon combines jaw-dropping feats of strength with powerful storytelling about overcoming childhood struggles, bullying, and self-doubt.

Important Update: The KCAES Community Open House originally scheduled for Saturday, September 27 has been canceled. 

We are grateful to our Karns City Area Elementary School PTO for their generous support in purchasing new furniture for the common learning areas in our primary and intermediate collaborative spaces. This new addition creates a welcoming environment for students to learn, connect, and grow together.

We hope this letter finds you well and that you have enjoyed a wonderful summer break filled with some rest and quality time with loved ones. As we embark on a new academic year, we are excited to start the year with a fully completely renovated building at Karns City Area Elementary School.
