March Mammal Madness

Fifth grade students in Miss Schnell and Mrs. Kemmer's classes at Karns City Area Elementary School recently participated in March Mammal Madness, a nationwide educational tournament organized by Arizona State University. The program combines science, research, and friendly competition as students predict the outcomes of simulated wildlife matchups based on real animal behaviors and ecosystems.

Historical Peep Project Winners

Students in Mrs. Twentier and Mrs. Seidler's Social Studies class recently showcased their creativity and historical knowledge through their annual “Peep Projects.”

Using marshmallow Peeps, students designed imaginative dioramas based on events, people, and moments from American history. From the American Revolution to westward expansion, each project highlighted important themes while bringing history to life in a fun and engaging way.

March Madness in Fourth Grade

March Madness took over Mrs. Hammonds’ 4th grade classroom! 

Students had a slam dunk day of learning filled with basketball fun and academic skills! They played mini basketball games while reviewing important grammar concepts, including synonyms, commonly confused words, and techniques for building strong sentences.

Karns City Area Elementary School is excited to announce a new partnership with the Andrew Effect, an organization dedicated to supporting young learners and fostering a love of education. Through this collaboration, students in grades two, three, and four will each receive an “Adventure Pack”—a thoughtfully designed collection of materials intended to spark curiosity, creativity, and learning beyond the classroom.

Tooth Talk

First graders in Mrs. Atwood’s, Mrs. Fritch’s, Mrs. Hutchison’s, and Mrs. Wimer’s classes recently had some very special visitors from Dr. McCaskey’s office! Three wonderful ortho assistants came to teach first grade students all about keeping their smiles healthy and bright.

Sunshine Station

Students in Mrs. Sadowski, Ms. Kelly and Mrs. Serafine’s rooms are back in business!

With their grand opening on October 30th, the Sunshine Station made and delivered nearly 70 orders with the help of 13 students! This round was funded by the faculty of KCAES and was enjoyed by all.

Karns City Area Elementary Fifth Graders Explore the Carnegie Museum of Natural History

Fifth grade students from Karns City Area Elementary School spent the day exploring the Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Pittsburgh. During their visit, students participated in a guided tour focused on Pennsylvania Natural History, where museum interpreters brought science to life through engaging exhibits.

Karns City Area Elementary School recently participated in Rock Your School Day, a nationwide initiative started by Get Your Teach On. Rock Your School Day was started to encourage teachers and schools to create an educational experience by doing something different for their students, and is about teachers, their students, and a community of educators celebrating the little things!
